After declaring the birth of the WPK on October 10, 1945, the President paid deep attention to instituting the flag of the Party which would show its character as a working-class party representing the popular masses including the workers, peasants and intellectuals.

One day in July of 1946, he instructed an official to draw a design for the WPK flag, saying that the design should be made in such a way as clearly showing the popular character of the Party and that the institution of the party flag would give a vivid idea of the WPK's mission and enhance the pride and honor of its members.

Later, he met the designers several times and advised them to adopt the right symbols representing the popular character of the WPK to be displayed in the party flag.

When the design was completed, he examined it three times and recommended that brush, symbolic of the intellectuals, should be included in the party emblem, together with hammer and sickle of Korean style representing the workers and peasants.

He also taught the designers how to arrange those symbols.

After all, the flag and emblem of the WPK clearly showing its character and mission as a revolutionary party of Juche type came into being under the energetic and careful guidance of the President.
