The contest is divided into groups of sports teams and amateur sports. The participants will compete in various events such as football, basketball, volleyball, table-tennis, tennis, field and track to be held in Pyongyang and in various local areas.

Present there were Vice Premier Kim Yong Jin, Ri Yong Su, department director of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea, officials concerned, officials of ministries and national institutions, sports persons and working people.

Kim Yong Jin said in his congratulatory speech that the contest of this year will mark an occasion of powerfully demonstrating the unshakable resolution of all the participants to glorify the leadership feats performed by the great Generalissimos Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il in developing sports and build a sports power, true to the noble intention of the dear respected Marshal Kim Jong Un.

Minister of Physical Culture and Sports Pak Myong Chol in his opening speech underscored the need to raise a hot wind of sports across the country with the contest as a momentum and called upon all the players to set fresh records and fresh standard by fully displaying in matches the technique they have cultivated in day-to-day trainings.

At the end of the ceremony the participants watched air stunts and demonstration performance of model aircraft players and parachutists.
