Pongnam Primary School in Pyongyang Trains Reserve Rhythmic Gymnasts
Pyongyang, October 13 (KCNA) -- Pyongyang Pongnam Primary School is well known in the DPRK as a center for training reserve rhythmic gymnasts.

The school placed first at the 38th National Schoolchildren's Sports Contest for Jongilbong Prize in May-June this year. In the team and individual rhythmic gymnastics events its pupils won a high acclamation of experts and audience for their unity in movements and display of graceful movements of high technique.

In the past contests, too, the school proved successful in team and individual events, thus gaining many trophies.

Ryang Chun Gyong, a teacher of the school who was awarded the titles of People's Teacher and Merited Athlete, told KCNA:

"Many years have passed since a rhythmic gymnastics group was set up at the school thanks to the government measure for introducing specialization in sports.

In the period the group bagged 10 odd trophies and more than 800 medals, including 600 odd gold medals, at the annual national schoolchildren's sports contest for Jongilbong Prize.

Graduates from the school have played a major role in developing the country's rhythmic gymnastics while being active at the national team.

Some of them became merited athletes or gymnastics stars for their good results at national and international tournaments.

I'll work harder to train many competent rhythmic gymnasts and thus contribute to turning our country into a sports power."
