The organizations include the Society of Kangjong village, the All-Islanders Measure Committee for Checking the Jeju Military Base on and the Measure Council for Checking the Construction of Jeju Naval Base.

Recalling that the "Saenuri Party" recently stressed the need to build the naval base for what it says "security", the statement branded its outbursts as an act of rubbing salt into the wounds of the islanders.

The statement said that the ruling party is insisting on the construction of the base under the pretence of "state policy" in disregard of the demand of the islanders for a halt to the construction.

It urged the party to make an official apology to the people and stop the project, declaring that the island should not be allowed to turn into a war arsenal.
