S. Korean Opposition Lawmaker Accuses Police of Shutting Eyes to GI Crime

Pyongyang, October 23 (KCNA) -- The south Korean police are shutting eyes to crimes committed by service members of the U.S. imperialist aggressor forces, touching off criticism among people. According to a lawmaker of the Democratic United Party, an opposition party, on October 19, service members of the U.S. forces had committed a total of 319 cases of robbery, theft, violence and rape and other high profile crimes and drug trafficking in Kyonggi Province alone from 2010 to the end of August this year. This was just what was made public but there are uncountable cases which have not been known. GIs crimes are becoming more rampant as the days go by but police are shutting eyes to them. It was reported that all GI crimes were handled by police without arresting any GI criminal in Kyonggi Province, except one case. Police are handing over GI criminals to the U.S. forces side without handling crimes under the pretext that they occurred while performing their duties, pursuant to the unequal south Korea-U.S. "Status of Forces Agreement". Disclosing this fact, the lawmaker held that there should be a principle of severe punishment in order to put an end to GIs crimes. |
