Pyongyang, October 26 (KCNA) -- It has been 103 years since An Jung Gun, a patriotic martyr of Korea, killed Hirobumi Ito, a mastermind of Japan's aggression on Korea. In 1905 the Japanese imperialists fabricated the "Ulsa Five-point Treaty" to justify their aggression on Korea. Enraged at this, An Jung Gun (Sept. 21, 1879-Mar. 26, 1910) set out on the anti-Japanese national-salvation struggle, determined to punish bosses of the Japanese aggressors. After setting Hirobumi Ito as the first target of his attacks, An went to Harbin of China where the mastermind of the aggression would come on October 26, 1909. At Harbin railway station he went through the enemy's strict guard and shot Hirobumi Ito to death, shouting "Long live Korea". Many righteous people at home and abroad praised his heroic deed and launched a movement for his release from the prison, but the Japanese imperialists hanged him in March 1910. In prison, An authored "Theory on Peace in the East", an lengthy article condemning Japanese imperialism as disturber of Oriental peace. President Kim Il Sung personally created a revolutionary drama "An Jung Gun Shoots Hirobumi Ito" in the period of the anti-Japanese armed struggle, arousing the Koreans to the anti-Japanese patriotic struggle. Later, this drama was adapted for a film and a novel. |
