A national symposium on basic sciences took place at Kim Il Sung University. Present there were scientists, technicians, university teachers and graduate students of doctoral institutes in the basic sciences and relevant fields.

The symposium was divided into panels of mathematics, physics, dynamics, geography, laser, marine science and hydrometeorology. Hundreds of papers were presented there.

National scientific and technological presentations in the fields of coal industry, casting and printing were separately held at the Sunchon Coal Mining Machine Plant, Pyongyang Thermal Power Complex and Pyongyang Combined Printing House.

Their participants heard papers on scientific and technological achievements made in settling problems arising in coal and power production and on researches helpful to putting the nation's printing industry on a higher stage.

A national scientific and technological exhibition in the field of fuel took place at the Fuel Station in Phyongchon District, Pyongyang.

On display there were data on many successes made in the efforts to solve the issue of fuel including scientific and technological researches and methods helpful to raising the combustion rate of low caloric coal by use of burning additive and manufacture and methods of using highly efficient combustion devices.

Cooking stoves economizing coal consumption by use of substitute fuel, bio-gas burner and tester for low caloric coal combustion, etc. were appreciated by visitors at the exhibition.
