Pyongyang, October 31 (KCNA) -- Freshwater fish production is gaining momentum in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea with fish farming put on a scientific basis. The Samsok Breed Fish Farm in Pyongyang releases millions of silver carp, grass fish and other herbivorous fry in the Taedong River every year, while supplying them to different parts of the country. The farm has overfulfilled its production plan in reliance on such natural feed as mud-snail while raising fry survival rate thrice. The Yonthan Breed Fish Farm in North Hwanghae Province built a spawning pond based on clear water to boost the survival rate and produced more young fishes than last year. A signal achievement was also made in raising the fast-growing and nutritious freshwater lobster at the Taedonggang Terrapin Farm. The farm directed big efforts to putting the breeding system on a scientific basis to increase the weight of each lobster. The Yomju Youth Fish Farm and Ryongchon Breed Fish Farm in North Phyongan Province laid a solid material and technical foundation for successful raising and spawning of Ryongjong fish. This year they have produced a large quantity of fry and sent them to other breed fish farms in the province. The Yonggwang Youth Fish Farm in Hamhung City, South Hamgyong Province and the Sukchon Breed Fish Farm in South Phyongan Province are breeding Ryongjong fish on a large scale under the long-term plan. |
