Pyongyang, November 1 (KCNA) -- The picking of such fruits as persimmon and kiwi is now at its height in rural villages of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea. Everywhere in the countryside peasants are seen gathering appetizing fruits in their gardens with smile on their faces. What is especially spectacular is the scenery of persimmons in Kangwon Province. Inhabitants in different parts of the province are picking ripe persimmons. Each house in Anbyon County has more than 10 persimmon trees. The DPRK government has encouraged garden pomiculture in the countryside and, consequently, every house of many rural villages grows more than five fruit trees. Typical of the villages well-known for garden pomiculture throughout the country are Salgu (apricot) village in Undong-ri, Hamju County, South Hamgyong Province and Kam-Salgu (persimmon-apricot) village in Sinphyong County, Sagwanamu (apple tree) village in Phyongam-ri, Koksan County and Taechu (jujube) village in Yangdong-ri, Unpha County, North Hwanghae Province. In these villages each household gathers in several hundred kilograms of fruits every year. This year many peasants across the country planted more fruit trees of various species in the gardens of their houses and villages after experiencing the advantages of garden pomiculture. |
