S. Korean "Saenuri Party" Accused of Its Moves to Block People's Voting
Pyongyang, November 7 (KCNA) -- The People's Action for Suffrage of south Korea made up of at least 200 civic and public organizations including the Citizen's Solidarity for Democratic Society and the Confederation of Trade Unions held a press conference at Youido in Seoul on Nov. 1 condemning the "Saenuri Party" for its scheme to bar people of broad strata from voting.

Speakers at the press conference accused the "Saenuri Party" of opposing the call of the people for extending the voting time.

The chief for information of the above-said party said the extension of the voting time would make people feel tired. "The presidential" candidate from the same party voiced her opposition to the people's call, claiming that it would require more expenditure.

The party is also kicking up a row, branding the opposition parties' call for the extension of the voting time as a political offensive.

The speakers at the conference recalled that there takes place in different parts of south Korea a signature campaign demanding the designation of the election day as a holiday so that all people may exercise their political rights and extension of the deadline of voting to enable people to vote after leaving their work sites. They also said 100 000 people joined in the campaign as of Nov. 1.

Many people including part-time jobbers numbering almost ten million should go out to work on the election day, too, and they should be present at work sites without asking for time to take part in voting for fear of losing jobs, they noted.

People can hardly repress their resentment at the "Saenuri Party" paying no heed to the people's demand, preventing them from voting and talking about what it called election's spending, they noted, declaring that they would carry on their actions till all people's suffrage is fully ensured.
