Pyongyang, November 11 (KCNA) -- The DPRK greets the first Mother Day. The 4th National Meeting of Mothers is to be held following the institution of the day. This is the highest citation and honor bestowed by the Workers' Party of Korea and the country upon the mothers who gave birth to sons and daughters and have brought them up with their warm patriotic loyalty and love for the younger generation. The immortal feats performed by them to be recorded in the history of Songun Korea are associated with the care of the Party and the leader who put forward all of them as women revolutionaries and true daughters of the country. President Kim Il Sung, attaching great significance to their role in training the younger generation and carrying forward the revolutionary cause, laid down codes and state policies for protecting the rights and interests of the mothers and pursued the policy of respecting women in the whole period of his revolutionary leadership. He convened a national meeting of mothers in November 1961 and made a speech "The Duty of Mothers in the Education of Children", providing an immortal great programme which would serve as guidelines for the mothers as direct nurses and principal educators. Leader Kim Jong Il brought up mothers as ardent persons who love the country and the future of the revolution and make devoted efforts for them in the crucible of the Songun revolution, increasing their position and role. The Korean women have fulfilled their mission to bring up the younger generation of the country. They gave birth to many sons and daughters with a noble mission and educated and trained them to successfully carry forward the lifeline of Juche and Songun. The proud tradition established by the mothers of the first generation of the revolution, anti-Japanese women fighters, has been inherited. They gave birth to the younger generation and brought them up in tempests of Mt. Paektu. A great many sons and daughters have performed their feats in the defence of the country, socialist construction and the sacred struggle for reunification. Among them are heroes who dedicated their lives to defending the country during the Fatherland Liberation War and standard-bearers in the period of Chollima era. Their exploits would be unthinkable without warm patriotism and sincerity of their mothers. It is the lifelong pride and happiness for mothers to send their children to the posts defending the country. Daily increasing is the number of patriotic families such as the father and his four sons producing molten iron at the Chollima Steel Complex since the Chollima era and families of colliers, miners, tractor drivers, linemen and women, shoe-repairers and barbers. These represent the feats of the mothers who give steady continuity to the family tradition of loyalty and patriotic lifeblood with their noble maternal love. A farmer of the Tonghung Co-op Farm in Kim Hyong Gwon County, Ryanggang Province, gave birth to triplets twice and hundreds of sets of triplets have been born at the Pyongyang Maternity Hospital under the socialist system which promotes giving birth to many children and takes care of them. The number of mothers who are bringing up three or more children in their thirties and forties has reached hundreds of thousands in the DPRK. Not a few women are bringing up orphans, while invariably working as leading officials, members of military family, doctors, artistes, workers and farmers. They are bringing into full bloom the beautiful traits that prevail in society, a big harmonious family. |
