Ri Se Gwang of the DPRK placed first at the men's rings exercise event. Ri gave a good account of himself at several international tournaments including the World Cup Gymnastics Tournament and the Fourth Asian Gymnastics Championship.

The DPRK's women's team finished runner-up and the men's team came third at the championship. Hong Un Jong and Ri Un Ha placed second and third at the women's vault exercise event respectively.
