North-South Joint Mass of Buddhists Held
Kaesong, November 15 (KCNA) -- A north-south joint Buddhist mass praying for Korea's reunification and having Nirvana service took place at Ryongthong Temple in Kaesong of the DPRK on Thursday to mark the 911th anniversary of Buddhist priest Uichon's attainment of divine enlightenment.

Present there from the north side were officer bearers of the Central Committee of the Buddhist Federation of Korea and priests and Buddhists of the temple and from the south side priests and Buddhists of Chonthae Order.

A Buddhist ritual was made to be followed by speeches.

Then a north-south joint Buddhist address praying for national reunification was read out.

Speakers recalled that the Ryongthong Temple successfully restored in the era of the June 15 joint declaration has failed to play a due role as a temple of national reconciliation owing to the obstructions of conservatives at home and abroad who dislike national unity and reunification.

They called upon Buddhists in the north and the south to unite in Dharma-minded concord to improve the north-south relations, preserve and implement the north-south joint declarations and thus make the temple Buddhism seminary for national reunification guided by teaching of Buddha.

A joint address expressed the firm resolution of the Buddhists in the north and the south to turn out as one in practical actions to defuse the distrust and confrontation between the north and the south and the danger of war and ensure durable peace under the banner of the June 15 North-South Joint Declaration and the October 4 declaration.
