Songs in Praise of Mothers Popular in DPRK
Pyongyang, November 15 (KCNA) -- Songs in praise of mothers are nowadays heard everywhere in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, with the 4th National Meeting of Mothers as an occasion.

The most impressive one among them is the song "My Mother", composed by leader Kim Jong Il in his teens in memory of his mother Kim Jong Suk, an anti-Japanese war hero.

In July Juche 49 (1960), he sang this song before his schoolmates at a meeting arranged to mark the graduation from the senior secondary school. The song represents his ardent yearning for Kim Jong Suk, who had devoted her all to raising him in the days of the anti-Japanese armed struggle and building a new country.

"Song of Woman", created to mark the 1st anniversary of the promulgation of the Law on Sex Equality, features the happy life enjoyed by women after the national liberation from the Japanese colonial rule.

"Soldiers Call Me Mother" and "I Am Wife of Officer" sing of the optimistic life of wives of officers in the Songun (military-first) era.

"Woman Is Flower", "Love Your Wives" and "My Wife" admire housewives for their devotion to families and the country.

"Happiness of Mother" and "Thinking of Mother" deal with painstaking efforts made by mothers to bring up their children as pillars of the country.

"Paean to Women in Songun Era" evokes feelings of respect for the women who have performed admirable feats for the country's prosperity.
