S. Korean Regime Accused of Contemplating Events to Commemorate Yonphyong Incident Anniversary

Pyongyang, November 17 (KCNA) -- The south Korean regime is contemplating "events to commemorate the 2nd anniversary of the Yonphyong Island shelling incident". A spokesperson for the Committee for the Peaceful Reunification of Korea on Saturday gave the following answer to the question put by KCNA in this regard: The south Korean regime is mulling staging such anti-DPRK charades as "events to commemorate the second anniversary of the Yonphyong Island shelling incident", far from drawing a lesson from the incident on Nov. 23 of 2010 in which its reckless military provocation invited merciless counter-blows from the army of the DPRK. In the wake of the call made by traitor Lee Myung Bak for "reexamining the Yonphyong Island shelling incident" during his inspection there in October last, the "Ministry of Defense" decided to change the nature of the shelling skirmish into that of triumphant battle. It was reported that the "commemoration of the incident" that had been held quietly by the marine corps would be upgraded to a "government" event co-sponsored by the ministry and the "Patriots and Veterans Affairs Agency". Pursuant to this scenario, the Lee group is contemplating holding a memorial service, a commemoration, a ceremony of unveiling a monument to those killed on the island and a ceremony of opening a "victorious battle memorial" between Nov. 22 and 24 with government officials, politicians and civilians of different social standings attending. As far as the incident is concerned, it is well known to the world that south Korean military faced deserved punishment for its reckless provocation against the DPRK. Taken aback by the DPRK army's strong counter-action, Lee made shriek-like order in an underground anti-air shelter of Chongwadae to make sure that the incident was not escalated. He even dismissed Minister of Defense Kim Thae Yong, one of his confidants, holding him responsible for the shameful defeat in the battle. Heavyweights of the conservative ruling party and "government" authorities thronged to the island and uttered a whole string of screams after watching debris on the island, a deserved punishment for their military's reckless provocation. After watching the tragic scene, south Koreans of different circles attributed this to consequences of the Lee group's provocations against the DPRK. This being a hard fact, they began talking about "victorious battle" all of a sudden. This is nothing but an odd tragicomedy which makes even a cow laugh. It is only such despicable warmongers as the Lee group that describes a defeated battle as a victorious one. The group has gone so mad in confrontation with fellow countrymen that it does not feel a shame now. The Lee group's projected "commemoration of the incident" is nothing but its last-ditch effort to recover from the shameful defeat through renewed provocations and incite confrontation among south Koreans to ensure its stay in power. However, this ridiculous farce would bring the group nothing but disgrace and put the group's true colors as provocateurs and warmongers into bolder relief. The south Korean regime should bear in mind that its attempt to spark the second and third Yonphyong Island shelling incidents, vociferating about "punishment," would only invite more deadly counter-blows. |
