Present there were Red Cross workers in Pyongyang and local areas including members of the Central Committee of the DPRK Red Cross Society.

Present there on invitation were foreign diplomatic envoys and representatives of international organizations here and members of the delegations of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies and the International Committee of the Red Cross active in the DPRK.

Congratulatory speeches were made by Yang Hyong Sop, vice-president of the Presidium of the Supreme People's Assembly, Jim Charles Dawe, head of the delegation of the international federation, Jean Jacques Putallaz, head of the delegation of the international committee.

Paek Yong Ho, vice-chairman of the Central Committee of the DPRK Red Cross Society, delivered a report on the review of the work of its Central Committee.

The reporter referred to the fact that the Red Cross Society has contributed to rescuing lives of people and promoting their health in touch with healthcare institutions at various levels and developed the exchange and cooperation with the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies and the International Committee of the Red Cross and Red Cross and Red Crescent organizations in different countries in the past period.

He underscored the need to turn out in the work for promoting the health and well-being of the people and providing them with happier and highly civilized living environment.

At the end of the report the participants looked round photos showing the history of the DPRK Red Cross and its activities.

Then followed speeches.

The congress reviewed the implementation of the budget of the society since the congress held in 2008 and amended and supplemented some of its statute.

It also discussed its development strategy and orientation of work in different fields and budget till 2016. Members of its leadership were elected at the congress.

The Central Committee of the society hosted a reception on Thursday in connection with the holding of the congress.
