On this occasion the Korean people look back upon the immortal feats of Kim Jong Il, who dedicated himself to the independent and peaceful reunification of the country.

When visiting Panmunjom, he saw the monument inscribed with President Kim Il Sung's last signature on a document related to national reunification and formulated as the three charters for Korea's reunification the three principles of national reunification, the proposal for founding the Democratic Federal Republic of Koryo and the 10-point programme of the great unity of the whole nation advanced by the President. He also declared that there would be no change in the stand of the Workers' Party of Korea to realize the cause of national reunification in an independent and peaceful way.

After that, he authored "Let Us Carry Out the Great Leader Comrade Kim Il Sung's Instructions for National Reunification", "Let Us Reunify the Country Independently and Peacefully through the Great Unity of the Entire Nation" and other celebrated works to provide guidelines for the national reunification movement.

Thanks to his distinguished and tested guidance, the north-south summit meetings were provided in Pyongyang and the June 15 joint declaration and the October 4 declaration, its action program, adopted.

There were also ministerial talks, military talks and other contacts and dialogues between the north and the south of Korea and the cooperation in different fields had been intensified between the two sides.

Kim Jong Il's feats performed through his historic inspection of Panmunjom will remain forever in the history of the national reunification movement and all Koreans will surely build a reunified thriving nation true to his behests.
