The opening ceremony took place at the Ice Rink on Wednesday.

Present there were Kim Ki Nam, secretary of the C.C., the Workers' Party of Korea, officials concerned and sportspersons.

At the end of the ceremony men's ice-hockey match took place between the Taesongsan Sports Team and the Pyongyang Railway Bureau Sports Team.

During the period of the contest the participants will compete in such events as ice-hockey, figure-skating, speed skating, short-track speed skating and skiing in various parts of the DPRK including Pyongyang and Samjiyon.
