Pyongyang, December 12 (KCNA) -- General secretary Kim Jong Il in his lifetime regarded music as one of the important means in pursuing politics. Music irrelative to the politics is not a real music -- this was his view of music. It was his belief that music can play a big role in beefing up the nation's military muscle and stepping up the economic construction. By dint of music, he had enormous achievements registered one after another in leading the Democratic People's Republic of Korea for decades. He saw to it that songs in reflection of the requirements of times were created to instill patriotism into the minds of the people and make them achieve fresh successes in their jobs. True to his intention, there came many songs that represent the will of the people to invariably follow the leadership of the Workers' Party of Korea and urge them to make long strides in building a thriving nation. Typical of the songs are "Hold High the Red Flag", "Song of Comradeship", "The Blue Sky over My Country", "The Country I Am Defending", "Higher and Faster", "Push Back Frontiers of the Latest Science" and "Our Country Is Witnessing Changes". His music-based politics demonstrated its might in the Songun (military-first) era, stirring up ardent patriotism among the people. |
