Typical of the songs are "Hold High the Red Flag", "Song of Comradeship", "The Blue Sky over My Country", "The Country I Am Defending", "Higher and Faster", "Push Back Frontiers of the Latest Science" and "Our Country Is Witnessing Changes".

His music-based politics demonstrated its might in the Songun (military-first) era, stirring up ardent patriotism among the people.
