In this period there took place more than 10 000 events of various forms in at least 190 countries and at international and regional organizations on such significant occasions as the 70th anniversary of birth of Kim Jong Il, the 100th day of his demise, the 15th anniversary of his election as general secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea and the 21st anniversary of his assumption of the supreme commandership of the Korean People's Army.

Mourning ceremonies were solemnly held in different parts of the world irrespective of ideology, political view, nationality and religious faith.

A lot of dignitaries and personages in different countries sent more than 3 000 condolatory messages to the DPRK and paid condolence visits to the DPRK missions in their countries. Among them were heads of party, state and government of more than 120 countries including China, Russia, Cuba, Syria, Cambodia, Nepal, Ethiopia, Nicaragua and Mexico and figures of international and regional organizations, groups for the study of the Juche idea and organizations for friendship and solidarity.

More than 4 100 wreaths and floral baskets were laid before the bier of Kim Jong Il and portraits of the smiling leader and his portraits at Kim Il Sung Square and DPRK missions in foreign countries.

Mourning period was declared and flags were hoisted at half-mast in different countries. Flags were also hoisted at half-mast at buildings of UN including the UN Headquarters and the UN Office in Geneva.

Participants of the plenary meeting of the 66th UN General Assembly, the meeting of officers of the UNFAO and the opening ceremony of the 28th "Golden Circus" International Circus Festival held in Rome paid silent tribute to Kim Jong Il.

Committees for mourning the demise of Kim Jong Il were formed in different countries and regional organizations and memorial services, meetings and ceremonies took place in a solemn atmosphere.

There were brisk activities for eternally glorifying the idea and cause of Kim Jong Il.

The International Kim Il Sung Foundation was enlarged and reorganized into the Kim Il Sung-Kim Jong Il Foundation.

Kim Jong Il received "Nepalese International Peace Prize" from the Nepal Journalist Association for the Study of the Juche Idea and Songun Politics, the title of honorary chairman from Soekarno Foundation for Education of Indonesia and the title of honorary citizenship from Caluma City in Bolivar Province and Cuenca City in Azuay Province of Ecuador and Gusau City in Zamfara State and Damaturu City in Yobe State of Nigeria.

The will to more deeply study and embody the revolutionary ideas of the peerlessly great men was clearly reflected by newly formed and named groups for the study of Kimilsungism-Kimjongilism in many countries including Italy, Bulgaria, Nigeria, South Africa, Mexico, Venezuela and Japan.

The first Day of Shining Star was celebrated with splendor as the greatest auspicious holiday.

In response to the call of the American regional preparatory committee for marking the centenary of birth of President Kim Il Sung, preparatory committees formed in more than 40 countries and regions organized colorful events to introduce the immortal exploits of Kim Jong Il and his noble virtue and wise leadership and gave wide publicity to them in media.

There took place an international internet seminar under the headline "The great leader Kim Jong Il will always be with us" under the co-sponsorship of the international preparatory committee for celebrating the centenary of birth of Kim Il Sung and the Korean Friendship Association.

Officials of political parties, governments, organizations and bodies in different countries and international and regional organizations and personages of different social standings visited the DPRK missions in their countries and laid floral baskets before portraits of Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il and full-length paintings of the peerlessly great men to pay highest tribute to them. The missions also received floral baskets and bouquets representing the best wishes for their immortality.

Political parties, organizations and personages of different social standings of foreign countries presented gifts to Kim Jong Il, the great sun, praying for his immortality. They included the Chinese People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries and China-Korea Friendship Association, the State Academic Igor Moiseyev Dance Company of Russia, the Party of Socialist Unity Centre (Communist) of India, the delegation of the Organization for the Study of the Juche Idea of Thailand, the Brazilian Center for Peace and Solidarity among Peoples, the coordinator of the National Coordinating Committee of the Workers' Party of Mexico and the director general of the Asian Regional Institute of the Juche Idea.

The international festival marking the centenary of birth of Kim Il Sung and the World Conference on the Juche Idea were held in Pyongyang with splendor, Kimjongilia shows took place in different countries and a joint photo exhibition in New York.

Top prize was awarded to Kimjongilia, an immortal flower, at the 2012 Netherlands Benro World Horticutural Expo and the 2012 Dalian Autumn Chrysanthemum Show in China.

A series of poems and songs were created and published. Among them were "Great Son of Korea", "Broad Smile", "Rays of Love" and "We Pledge, Looking to the Sky above the DPRK in December" reflecting the people's boundless reverence and yearning for Kim Jong Il.

More than 15 000 media carried portraits of smiling Kim Jong Il and photos on his revolutionary activities and gave wide publicity to his sacred life and immortal exploits.

Media in different parts of the world vied with each other in reporting the exciting news that the army and people of the DPRK held Kim Jong Il in high esteem as the eternal leader of the party and state.

Dozens of countries reported the full text or gist of the dear respected Kim Jong Un's work "Let Us Hold Great Comrade Kim Jong Il in High Esteem as General Secretary of Our Party Forever and Successfully Accomplish the Revolutionary Cause of Juche" in little over one month since the work was brought out.

Media in different countries gave wide publicity to the sacred revolutionary life of Kim Jong Il and his undying feats and noble personality under the headlines "Great Man Kim Jong Il", "Lodestar Will Shine Forever", "Legacy of Leader Kim Jong Il", etc.
