The supermarket was built in October 1991 as a department store and later was renovated under the initiative and care of the leader.

The visit to it ready to start its operation was his last field guidance for the people's wellbeing.

Recalling the day, Kim Yong Ok, manager of the supermarket, told KCNA:

"Going round the supermarket for hours despite his bad health, he learned about variety, shape and color of goods and their prices and utility value. He even took such things as frying-pan and bag in his hands, saying with pleasure that the people would like them.

Then he expressed his satisfaction over the supermarket and its goods helpful to the people's wellbeing and set forth tasks facing the supermarket in its service.

Touched by his warm love for the people, the employees of the supermarket turned out to implement his behests. Over the past one year we have worked hard to considerably increase varieties of goods and spruce up the supermarket building for customers' convenience. The supermarket generally serves at least 10 000 customers a day.

We will strive to be a genuine servant for the people, true to the behests of Kim Jong Il."
