After embarking on the road of revolution in his early years, he had energetically conducted ideo-theoretical activities to shape a right strategy and tactics for the human cause of independence.

He authored "On the Juche Idea" and many other works, developing the immortal Juche idea, fathered by President Kim Il Sung, to show the road for the world progressives desirous of independence to follow. His celebrated works include "Let Us Advance under the Banner of Marxism-Leninism and the Juche Idea", "The Historical Lesson in Building Socialism and the General Line of Our Party" and "The Songun-based Revolutionary Line Is a Great Revolutionary Line of Our Era and an Ever-Victorious Banner of Our Revolution".

He also pursued the Songun (military-first) politics in face of the imperialists' anti-socialist and anti-DPRK moves and thus defended the country and the revolution, which is another great feat for global independence.

When socialism collapsed in some socialist countries, the imperialists and other reactionaries of the world concentrated their attacks on the DPRK, clamoring about the "end" of socialism. However, the DPRK repelled their persistent attacks by dint of Songun at every step to reliably defend its security and sovereignty. This victory would have been unthinkable without the distinguished guidance of Kim Jong Il, who bolstered up the DPRK's political and military strength by giving priority to the army.

Such steady and victorious advance of the DPRK toward independence and socialism gave great strength to the world progressives and invigorated the revival of the socialist movement in the world.

Meanwhile, Kim Jong Il steadily conducted external activities for global independence and peace. In the new century alone, he visited China and Russia several times to strengthen friendship with those countries and contribute to defending peace and stability in Northeast Asia and the rest of the world.

His great feats for global independence now serve as the source of strength for all the independent countries in the anti-imperialist struggle for socialism.
