Pyongyang, December 18 (KCNA) -- The National Reconciliation Council released a press release Monday disclosing the crimes committed by the Lee Myung Bak group of traitors and the "Saenuri Party" by hindering the north-south NGO cooperation and exchange and quelling the nation's desire for reunification for five years in office. The south Korean group of traitors set its confrontation policy as a standard and bound NGO cooperation organizations of south Korea hand and foot in March 2009, according to the press release. It goes on: The group urged the NGO organizations mulling visiting the DPRK to present "written assurances" pledging "not to say or act in favor of the north's propaganda". In July 2010, the group even plotted field inspection farce to prevent the NGOs from conducting cooperation with the DPRK via the third country. With the "Cheonan" warship sinking case as a pretext, the group cooked up "May 24 measure", totally blocking the north-south NGO cooperation. It used south-north cooperation fund for sinister purposes and in the end, tried to pour it into so-called "unification jar". The disruption of the NGO cooperation pushed at least 2 400 medium and small enterprises of south Korea into bankruptcy and deprived more than 300 000 of their jobs. The business loss reached 32.3 billion U.S. dollars as of May this year. The puppet group of south Korea even deterred individuals from making visits and contacts. The Teachers' Union and the Alliance of Teachers' Organizations and the Confederation of Trade Unions of south Korea planned in August and September 2008 to tour Mt. Paektu and watch the grand gymnastic and artistic performance "Arirang". But they could not do so because of the group. The group even blocked the DPRK visit by delegations of the Teachers' Union and workers in Inchon area in 2009 and disallowed tour of Singye Temple in Mt. Kumgang by a Buddhist organization in February 2010. It even stood in the way of holding symposium in Kaesong on checking Japan's reinvasion of Tok Islets and urging it to abolish its past which was organized by several organizations of south Korea in August last year. It totally broke up the Kaesong Industrial Zone cooperation and tour of Mt. Kumgang. The first-phase construction of the Kaesong Industrial Zone has not yet been finished even though a decade has passed and the south Korean medium and small enterprises that entered the zone are suffering from constant financial difficulties. Due to the moves of the group against the tour of Mt. Kumgang Hyundai and other enterprises and south Korean Kangwon Province suffered from damage running at more than 2 billion U.S. dollars according to the data available from the south Korean media. Lots of people who had been engaged in the tourism of Mt. Kumgang went downhill to bankruptcy. The south Korean group even scuttled the efforts for the north-south events for reunification. It prevented the core members of the south Korean Council of Youth Organizations from visiting Pyongyang in April 2008. They were going to take part in the 5th conference of the north-south youth and students organizations for the implementation of the June 15 joint declaration and the October 4 declaration. It also checked the participation of students belonging to the south Korean Federation of University Student Councils in the meeting for national reunification that was held in Mt. Kumgang to mark the 8th anniversary of the June 15 joint declaration. It also disallowed the workers' organizations of south Korea to contact the DPRK side for the discussion of the issue of holding a north-south workers' event for reunification on the occasion of May Day in 2010. It did not allow the members of the south side committee for implementing the June 15 joint declaration to have working contact with the DPRK side abroad in September 2009. It turned down all the proposals for contacts raised by those concerned of the Academic Headquarters and the Press Headquarters of the South Side Committee for Implementing the June 15 Joint Declaration from June 2009 to February 2011. In May 2011, it checked the Pyongyang visit by the permanent representative of the south side committee and his party and members for technical contacts, thus disrupting the joint event of the north and the south and abroad for marking the 11th anniversary of the June 15 joint declaration. North-south joint events for national reunification that had been held in a grand way in the past were not held during the five years under the rule of traitor Lee Myung Bak and "the Saenuri Party." Throughout its rule, the Lee regime invoked the "Security Law", anti-reunification evil law, and suppressed pro-reunification movement organizations and patriotic figures after branding them as "enemy-benefiting pro-communists" and "forces following the north". Soon after taking power in February 2008 the Lee group arrested the chairman of the South Headquarters of the Pan-national Alliance of Youth and Students for Korea's Reunification and in July 2010 detained in masse core members of the Solidarity for Implementing the South-North Joint Declaration and took legal actions against them. In December last year, in particular, it harshly suppressed a broad segment of south Koreans and progressive youth and students who mourned the passing of the father of the nation. When Ro Su Hui, vice-chairman of the South Headquarters of the Pan-national Alliance for Korea's Reunification, crossed the demarcation line in Panmunjom after his visit to Pyongyang to express condolences over the great loss to the nation, the south Korean regime carried him off in a headlock. The Lee group committed so huge crimes by checking and breaking up the north-south NGO cooperation and exchange. The press release stressed that the nation can never pardon the Lee group and the "Saenuri Party" which have committed huge anti-reunification and traitorous crimes of wantonly quenching the nation's desire and turning the north-south NGO cooperation into the plaything of its confrontation policy with fellow countrymen and forcing the south Korean reunification movement organizations to fall victim to it. |
