Pyongyang, December 26 (KCNA) -- The south Korean Confederation of Trade Unions (KCTU) launched big actions for settling the situation of Ssangyong Motors in Phyongthaek, Kyonggi Province on Dec. 21. Attending there were regional headquarters and industrial trade unions under the KCTU in Seoul and Inchon cities, Kyonggi Province and south Korean Kangwon Province. The participants held a meeting at Phyongthaek Railway Station. Speakers said that workers, who were deprived of their right to existence after being dismissed at the Ssangyong Motors, continue to lose their lives. The workers' demand is the withdrawal of the lay-off policy and reemployment of all the laid-off workers, they noted, vowing to wage united actions to prevent further grievous deaths. They called upon the citizens to join in the actions to probe the truth behind the incident that followed the lay-off, and punish those responsible for it. The protesters marched to the iron tower where workers who were dismissed at the Ssangyong Motors were in their sit-in strike. They held a meeting before it. Speakers denounced the authorities for moving to evade the responsibilities despite the fact that the dismissed workers and their families are pushed to the death. They urged the authorities to solve the incident as they unlawfully trampled down and violated the rights of workers. They called for fighting it out to the last, aware that the workers will be driven to cliff unless they carry on the actions to protect themselves. |
