Modern Sporting Centers Appear in DPRK
Pyongyang, January 5 (KCNA) -- The year 2012 witnessed a number of modern sporting centers in the capital city of Pyongyang and local areas in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea.

In April, the Taekwon-Do Holy Center was opened in Chongchun Street in Pyongyang, with a total floor space of more than ten thousand square meters.

In October, a sports village made its appearance on the Yanggak Islet in the middle of the River Taedong, which is heated by geotherm.

The People's Open-air Ice Rink and the Skate Park were built on the bank of the River Taedong while nearly 20 parks in Pyongyang have been face-lifted, furnished with sports and amusement facilities.

A synthetic-grass football stadium was built for the Wolmido Sports Team and a fitness center appeared in Thongil Street.

Kim Il Sung Stadium and Sosan Football Stadium, combat sports and table-tennis gymnasiums in Chongchun Street were renovated.

Kim Hyong Jik University of Education had a gymnasium and an open-air stadium built on a modern basis.

Similar gymnasiums were built in Nampho Port and Pyokdong County, North Phyongan Province.

Jonchon County, Jagang Province, finished building a swimming pool at its health complex and new folklore game grounds sprung up in Uiju and Nyongbyon counties, North Phyongan Province.
