The developments on the Korean Peninsula in recent few years prove that distrust and misunderstanding between the compatriots in the north and the south cannot be wiped out nor can they trust and get reconciled with each other but they will only result in military conflicts and huge calamities unless an end is put to the policy of confrontation and war in south Korea.

In order to defuse the confrontation between the north and the south it is necessary, first of all, to force the south Korean authorities to roll back their policy of confrontation as they take a hostile approach towards the ideology and social system in the north

The anti-reunification forces in south Korea should immediately roll back the confrontation policy the injustice of which was clearly proved and opt for respecting the June 15 joint declaration and the October 4 declaration and implementing them. They should stop at once war exercises and arms buildup increasing the military tension between the north and the south. They should refrain from all acts of stoking antagonism and distrust between compatriots and irritating the other side. This is a principled requirement for removing the confrontation between the north and the south to meet the aspiration and wishes of all Koreans as early as possible and opening up the way of independent reunification, peace and prosperity.

It is the basic way of removing the confrontation between the north and the south under the present situation to implement the historic June 15 joint declaration and the October 4 declaration, a programme for implementing it.

All reunification movement organizations and personages at home and abroad should unite close under the banner of the June 15 joint declaration and boost mutual visits, contacts, solidarity and alliance, while intensifying the patriotic struggle to force the south Korean authorities to roll back their confrontation policy and promote national unity and reunification.
