Rodong Sinmun Calls for Upholding Independence

Pyongyang, January 14 (KCNA) -- Now that the imperialists are becoming all the more reckless in their moves to dominate the world, it is a vital requirement for rise and fall of each country and nation to uphold independence, says Rodong Sinmun Monday in a bylined article. It goes on: After the demise of the Cold War, the imperialists are getting evermore undisguised in their ambition to stamp out the Juche character and national character of other countries and nations and establish their domination throughout the world. The imperialists are employing the methods of threat and blackmail, appeasement and deception against the countries desirous of independence against imperialism, while pressurizing those countries to establish political and economic systems favorable for dominating the countries under the pretexts of "aid" and "cooperation." They have made no scruple of perpetrating brigandish armed invasion of sovereign states, taking advantage of the upsetting of equilibrium of forces in the international arena. The contradiction and antagonism among factions in not a few countries are now causing mayhem and throwing a serious hurdle in the way of social development and economic life. A scramble for power is sparking clashes and disorder which result in even a civil war. All this is a product of the crafty hegemonic policy of the imperialists to trigger off social and political mayhem in other countries and interfere in their internal affairs and bring them under their control by making use of it. It is necessary to react to the hard-line acts of the imperialists with the toughest stand. This is the legitimate right of the country and nation advocating independence, and an independent mode of counter-action to win victory in the confrontation with imperialism. The world progressive countries and peoples should wage a more dynamic struggle to build an independent new society and world, firmly adhering to the principle of national independence. |
