Rodong Sinmun Calls on States Concerned to Do Things Helpful to Reunification

Pyongyang, January 15 (KCNA) -- The issue of Korea's reunification is a product of foreign forces' domination and interference in its internal affairs, says Rodong Sinmun on Tuesday in a bylined article. It continues: The states concerned should do things helpful to reunifying Korea in order to open a new phase in the settlement of the issue of Korea's reunification. The struggle of the Korean people for national reunification is the one to realize national sovereignty by terminating foreign forces' domination and interference. The issue of Korea's reunification can never be settled in a fair manner unless national sovereignty is respected. Those states concerned should not hamstring the efforts of the Korean nation for reunification. The U.S. is directly held responsible for the issue of Korea. The U.S. military occupation of south Korea divided the Korean nation into two and sparked off antagonism and confrontation between the north and the south of Korea. The U.S. turned south Korea into a nuclear outpost and has staged frequent provocative military drills against the DPRK, sharply increasing the danger of war on the Korean Peninsula and laying a stumbling block in the way of Korea's reunification. It is necessary to oppose aggression and war moves and remove the war danger in order to ensure peace on the Korean Peninsula and achieve the reunification of the country. To this end, it is necessary for the U.S. to roll back its hostile policy towards the DPRK. Japan is also required to refrain from anything obstructive to Korea's reunification. But for the interference and obstruction of Japan, the Korean people's cause of national reunification would have made great progress. Japan can never evade this responsibility. Had Japan redeemed its past crimes, abandoned its hostile policy toward the DPRK, stopped stoking division in Korea and done nothing obstructive to Korea's reunification, there would have been a change in the abnormal DPRK-Japan relations. |
