The slogan was set forth by leader Kim Jong Il 60 years ago when he was studying at Mangyongdae Revolutionary School, an educational institution for the children of revolutionary martyrs.

During his days at the school, he paid close attention to raising the students' zeal for study so that they could gain knowledge instrumental to the Korean revolution.

In January Juche 42 (1953) he advanced the slogan "Let Us Study for Korea!" at a sub-branch meeting of the Children's Union, saying the slogan carries the idea that all students should acquire more practical knowledge to further glorify Korea as faithful sons and daughters of President Kim Il Sung.

He stressed the need for them to follow the revolutionary idea of the President and get a good understanding of Korea's history, geography and culture as well as of the country's situation.

Since then, the slogan had stirred up the school youth and children's enthusiasm for study and brought good results in their school course. It also encouraged the working people to study hard for the prosperity of the country.

Displaying its great vitality, the slogan is still inspiring the army and people of the DPRK to dynamically advance toward the high eminence of a thriving socialist nation.
