Saaeed Eleia Dawood, director of the Organizational Department of the Regional Leadership of the Syria's Baath Arab Socialist Party who is chairman of the Syrian Arab-Korea Friendship Association, was elected chairman of the preparatory committee.

The committee decided to introduce the immortal revolutionary career of Kim Jong Il and his feats and hold diverse politico-cultural events on the occasion of the Day of the Shining Star.
