Japan Can Never Evade Responsibility for Sexual Slavery: Rodong Sinmun
|

Pyongyang, February 1 (KCNA) -- Lawmakers in New York State recently proposed a resolution on the issue of the "comfort women" for the Imperial Japanese Army. The resolution branded the issue of the sexual slavery as "the most typical slave trade in the 20th century" and demanded the Japanese government recognize the historical responsibility and inform posterity of such criminal acts. The Australian foreign minister at a recent joint interview with his Japanese counterpart said that the issue of the "comfort women" for the Imperial Japanese Army is one of the darkest events in modern history and expressed concern over the Japanese government's attempt to reexamine "Kono's statement" in 1993 which admitted the coercion involved in enforcing sexual slavery for the Imperial Japanese Army. Rodong Sinmun Friday observes in a bylined commentary in this regard: These facts go to prove that Japan's attitude to persistently shun an apology and reparation for the crimes committed by the Japanese imperialists against humanity in the past is touching off strong resentment of the international community. In the past the Japanese authorities have worked hard to evade the responsibility for the sexual slavery, asserting that there is no ample evidence proving the sexual slavery and the issue had already been settled. It is the calculation of the Japanese militarists that to teach the younger generation its disgraceful history would be a hurdle to realizing their ambition for overseas aggression. The Japanese reactionaries are set to bring back the period when the Japanese imperialists invaded Asian countries and trampled down the destiny of the people there in the first half of the last century. They are doggedly denying the past crimes to implement the ambition for overseas aggression, realize the old dream of "Greater East Asia Co-prosperity Sphere" and revenge their defeat. Herein lie the gravity and danger of the Japanese reactionaries' persistent moves to deny the past crimes. Their despicable moves to deny the past crimes and evade the responsibility for them would only add to their crimes. The Japanese authorities should honestly admit the past crimes and make sincere apology and full reparation for them as demanded by the international community. |
