Traditional Hairdos of Korean Girls
|
|
Pyongyang, February 5 (KCNA) -- Korean girls have long liked to trim their hairs with a single pigtail or two pigtails. According to a historian, the style of hairdo with a single pigtail in Korea dates back to the Three Kingdoms (Koguryo, Paekje and Silla). The history book "Koryodogyong" says that girls would dress their hairs with a single pigtail, with red ribbon tied to it as a sign of unmarried woman. In the period of the Feudal Joson Dynasty (1392-1910), people could distinguish girls by such hairdo. The hairdo with two pigtails makes girls look vivacious and lovely. Such hairstyle can be seen in Koguryo tomb murals listed as one of the world cultural heritages. |
