Minju Joson Denounces Lee Myung Bak's "Special Amnesty"
Pyongyang, February 6 (KCNA) -- Minju Joson Wednesday in a bylined commentary terms the "special amnesty" granted by Lee Myung Bak of south Korea to his close confidants unpardonable mockery and insult to the south Korean people.

The commentary says:

Lee's close confidants who had been behind bars are criminals who committed irregularities and corruption by abusing power.

Lee played such sleight of hand as including in the list of his "special amnesty" some of Ryongsan evacuees as well as pro-Park figures of "the Saenuri Party" under the signboard of "great unity of people" in an effort to release his close confidants from prison.

However, such artifice is not workable anywhere.

In south Korea there are not a few people who were arrested and thrown into prison while fighting for the democratization of society and national reunification. If Lee sincerely wants "great unity of people", he should set free more than 700 prisoners of conscience who had been jailed on charge of violating "the Security Law" and release every Ryongsan evacuee before any others. But he didn't pardon even a prisoner of conscience nor did set free all Ryongsan evacuees.

In a final analysis, Lee's inclusion of pro-Park figures and some Ryongsan evacuees in the list of "special amnesty" was not for achieving the "great unity of people" but for calming down resentment of the ruling party and the people.

It is nothing but Lee's daydream to prolong his remaining days by depending on his close confidants freed by him en masse this time, the commentary concludes.
