Raul Castro was deeply moved by Kim Jong Il's celebrated works on scientific accuracy of socialism and inevitability of its victory and decided to present the lamp as a gift to him when a Cuban delegation was visiting the DPRK.

With this present he wished that Kim Jong Il, the brilliant Songun (military-first) commander and master of ideology and theory, would render greater service to the human cause of independence, the cause of socialism.

The marble desk lamp consists of hemispheric shade, indicative of globe, and prop and electric wire.

Carved in relief on the shade rim, four by four, are broad leaves of the oldest ever-green tree in Cuba.
