New Year's Greeting, Traditional Custom of Koreans
Pyongyang, February 9 (KCNA) -- The lunar New Year's Day falls on February 10 this year.

From olden times, Koreans have spent the day significantly with their celebration beginning with the New Year's greetings to the senior.

Yu Un Gyong, a lecturer of the Pyongyang Folklore Park, told KCNA:

It is a custom of the Koreans to make bows to the senior when the lunar New Year's day dawns.

New Year's greetings are offered to family members in order of age and then to old villagers, teachers and friends.

Old people would give simple gifts they prepared to children when they make bows, while the grown-ups making a New Year's call are entertained with special dishes.

Greetings are also offered to elders living in distant areas.

Friends exchange well-wishing greetings, expressing the hope that everything would go well in the new year.
