Rodong Sinmun Condemns Japan's Suppression of Chongryon
Pyongyang, February 17 (KCNA) -- Rodong Sinmun Sunday says Japan's additional "sanctions" amount to a grave challenge to the dignity and sovereignty of the DPRK and an evil act going against human rights, humanitarianism and international law.

Japanese Prime Minister Abe, in a "statement" issued on February 12 in connection with the 3rd underground nuclear test of the DPRK, took additional "measures" of "banning the reentry" into Japan of the vice-chairmen of Chongryon (General Association of Korean Residents in Japan), claiming that they are "of the stand of rendering substantial help to the authorities of north Korea as their staff members".

The same day the right-wing gangsters of the ultra-right conservative organization of Japan flocked to the central hall of Chongryon and went on the rampage. They decried the nuclear test as "a threat to the world peace and security" and said "Koreans go out of Japan". The suspension of the application of the subsidies to the Korean schools took effect in a chain reaction in Kanagawa and Saitama prefectures and other areas of Japan.

It is the inveterate bad habit of the Japanese reactionaries to suppress and treat the Chongryon badly as sort of "hostages" in its bid to revenge on the DPRK, the commentary points out, and goes on:

Chongryon is a sacred overseas Koreans' organization representing and defending the Koreans' democratic and national rights. They live in Japan as a consequence of the Japanese imperialists' colonial rule over Korea.

It is an unacceptable barbaric act against humanity that the Japanese reactionaries keep clamping down on Koreans in Japan, far from guaranteeing their rights.

The DPRK will no longer overlook Japan escalating suppression and ill treatment of the dignified Chongryon and the compatriots in Japan but decisively react to them.
