S. Korean Police Accused of Tightening Gag on Media
Pyongyang, February 18 (KCNA) -- The South Korean internet broadcasting service Voice of People on Friday condemned the police for kicking up a racket for suppressing media.

It said the " Institute for Security Policy Studies " under the Police Agency in a document released last year branded Voice of People, a legal medium, as "the one operated by the force disturbing security" and brought to light an attempt to crack down upon it.

It also blasted police for letting loose such sheer sophism that "cyber agents were massively escalating communist activities."

In the past, too, the authorities forced Minjok Ilbo, a progressive medium, to close on charges that "it praised, encouraged and sympathized with the north", and sentenced its manager Jo Yong Su to capital punishment.

The broadcasting service termed as groundless police's charge that it is being run by the National Alliance for Democracy and National Reunification labeled as "an organization benefiting the enemy" and it echoed the assertions of the north and the forces following it and dismissed this as a serious libel.

If the police fail to take proper steps including official apology for this, the broadcasting service will hold them accountable for it, it warned.
