Pyongyang, February 21 (KCNA) -- The Emergency Situation Council for Urgently Coping with Lay-off, Part-time Job and Destruction of Trade Unions in south Korea staged a sit-in strike in Seoul on Feb. 18 in protest against the puppet regime's unpopular rule. Prior to the strike it held a press conference. At the press conference speakers accused the "government" authorities of dismissing and suppressing leading members of trade unions, instead of settling the situation at Hanjin Heavy Industry, Ssangyong Motors, Yusong Enterprise and Hyundai Motors. They expressed irrepressible resentment at the authorities who are shunning the settlement of the labor issue demanded by the overwhelming majority of the people, conniving at the entrepreneurs' destruction of trade unions. They declared they would struggle to bring about society for the workers at the risk of their lives. They threatened to stage high-profile actions such as meeting, demonstration and information service in various places of Seoul during the strike. That day a candlelight rally took place with workers and other people of different social standings involved. In the meantime, the Solidarity Council for Part-time Jobs at Schools in the area of Seoul staged a sit-in strike outside the Seoul Municipal Education Agency in protest against group dismissal. The organization charged that at least 1 200 part-time members of the council in Seoul are in danger of being discharged with the new school term at hand. |
