Japanese Government's Suppression of Chongryon under Fire

Pyongyang, February 22 (KCNA) -- The Standing Council of the Korean Federation of Workers in Commerce in Japan made public a statement on Feb. 20 in denunciation of the Japanese conservative government's despicable suppression of Chongryon (the General Association of Korean Residents in Japan) and its discrimination against Koreans as part of its "sanctions" against the DPRK. The statement bitterly condemned Japan's unethical campaign against Chongryon and Koreans over the DPRK's third underground nuclear test conducted for self-defence. It went on: Local self-governing bodies including Kanagawa and Saitama prefectures stopped payment of subsidies to Korean schools, toeing the Japanese government's "sanctions" measure for blocking the visits of vice-chairmen of the Central Standing Committee of Chongryon to their homeland. The Japanese government is set to ban persons' visits publicly recognized by international law and even codify national discrimination by linking with it even the issue of education of children of Koreans in Japan. This revealed that it is the unethical and national chauvinist government trampling down even the elementary human rights. The statement accused the Japanese government of perpetrating such unreasonable suppression as conducting a wholesale search operation against the company and house of a Korean businessman on the charge of violating the "law on foreign exchange" for the mere reason that he sent goods to the DPRK subject to "sanctions". It urged the Japanese government to lift all unjust "sanctions" at once and fairly guarantee the Korean businessmen the right to business and ensure human rights and living of Koreans in Japan. |
