Pyongyang, February 23 (KCNA) -- The 28th Science and Technology Festival of Kim Chaek University of Technology in Pyongyang took place on Feb. 20-22. Shown in forms of models, diagrams and CD at the festival were more than 160 scientific achievements greatly conducive to updating the national economy. Yang Ki Chol, director of the Scientific Research Department of the university, told KCNA: "Teachers, researchers and postgraduates of the university have made lots of scientific achievements to further develop the nation's leading industrial sectors. Among them are establishment of copper production process based on hydrometallurgy and double high impedance UHP electric arc furnace, both which have proved effective in practice. The copper production process by hydrometallurgy helps prevent environmental pollution while reducing electricity consumption by half and raising the production rate over 15 percent than the previous one. The double high impedance UHP electric arc furnace is an advanced steel production system relying on home-made electrode." Jo Chol Ryong, a teacher of the university, said: "What catches the eyes among the exhibits at the festival is the method of production of steel castings based on boron, titanium and rare-earth elements which are abundant in the country. There are also inventions helpful to making production processes on CNC and non-man basis." |
