The work, published on February 27, Juche 68 (1979), gives an all-round exposition of theoretical and practical matters arising in developing Koryo medicine, a traditional medicine. It has served as guidelines for developing the Juche-based national medicine

Since the work was published, a well-organized system for developing the traditional medicine has been established throughout the country and the medicine has reached the higher stage of its development.

The Academy of Koryo Medicine in Pyongyang plays a pivotal role in developing the medicine in the country, while carrying on joint study and exchanges of science and technologies with other countries.

Koryo therapies, including cupping, acupuncture and finger pressing, are applied to patients in hospitals and clinics throughout the country. Multi-purpose acupuncture and other newly developed traditional therapies are applicable even to obstinate diseases.

Koryo medicine-based remedies for advanced gastric cancer and other diseases are popular among patients.

Meanwhile, many books on Koryo medicine were brought out to further improve the traditional medicine. Among them are "Principles of Koryo Medicine", "Treatment with Acupuncture and Moxibustion" and "Book on Clinical Koryo Therapy".

In the country there are a large number of pharmaceutical factories manufacturing Koryo medicine on an extractive and scientific basis.
