DPRK Will Take Tougher Counteraction: Rodong Sinmun
|

Pyongyang, March 1 (KCNA) -- It is a traditional fighting mode of the DPRK and the militant spirit of its army and people to foil the reactionary offensive of the U.S. imperialists and their followers with a revolutionary offensive, says Rodong Sinmun Friday in a bylined article. It goes on to say: Under the wise leadership of President Kim Il Sung, the DPRK's armed forces for self-defense, though they were in their infancy after the country's liberation, frustrated the enemies' provocations and sabotages not only in the areas along the Military Demarcation Line but in different parts of the northern half of Korea, thus guaranteeing the peaceful environment and foundation of the republic with arms. When the U.S. imperialists and the south Korean puppet forces ignited a war, the DPRK's revolutionary armed forces delivered a merciless counterattack which led to their final victory. Since then, the U.S. imperialists fabricated the incident of the armed spy ship Pueblo, the incident of the spy plane EC-121, the Panmunjom incident, etc., driving the situation to the brink of a war. At every incident, the army and people of the DPRK foiled the enemies' moves to invade it with a tougher counteraction, calling for responding to retaliation with retaliation and to an all-out war with an all-out war. The DPRK-U.S. nuclear confrontation that had edged toward the worst phase came to a conclusion for the time being by the adoption of the agreed framework reached between the two countries in Geneva in October 1994 and a message of assurances the then U.S. President Clinton sent to Generalissimo Kim Jong Il. However, the U.S. imperialists which set it as a goal to bring down the DPRK's system defaulted on the agreement and has persistently resorted to the moves to isolate and stifle it. The DPRK declared the withdrawal from the Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty which it had temporarily put on hold and the possession of nuclear weapons and conducted two rounds of underground nuclear test as part of measures for self-defense. The U.S. imperialists and other hostile forces are trying to violate the sovereignty of the DPRK, taking issue with its launch of satellite Kwangmyongsong 3-2 and the successful third nuclear test. But their moves will meet a tougher revolutionary offensive of the army and people of the DPRK. Instead of any concession and retreat, the DPRK will take a more resolute counteraction which will culminate in its victory. |
