Japanese Right-wing Forces' Repressive Campaign Assailed in South Korea

Pyongyang, March 1 (KCNA) -- 38 civic organizations of south Korea including the Council for the Solution of the Issue of the Volunteers' Corps held a press conference in front of the Japanese embassy in Seoul on Feb. 27. They denounced the right-wing forces of Japan for denying the sexual slavery for the Imperial Japanese Army enforced in the past and suppressing the campaign for its solution. Speakers in the conference accused the right-wing forces of Japan of repeating the reckless remarks made by the mayor of Osaka in August last year that there was no evidence proving that Korean women were taken away by soldiers of the Imperial Japanese Army by violence and threat. They went on: Japanese police disturbed the rally held in Japan in protest against the outbursts of the mayor and in demand of a solution to the issue of sexual slavery. Not content with this, the police conducted search operations against the offices and houses of civic organizations and human rights activists involved in the rally. The speakers blasted the Japanese government for persistently denying the past sexual slavery, dreaming of the revival of militarism. This government's attitude is fanning up the right-wing forces' reckless remarks and repressive campaign, they noted, demanding a halt to its suppression of the citizens' movement for a solution to the issue of sexual slavery. South Korea, too, should pressurize Japan to fulfill its legal responsibility in strong reaction to reckless remarks denying the sexual slavery and repressive campaign in Japan, they held. |
