International Women's Day Significantly Marked in DPRK
|
|
Pyongyang, March 8 (KCNA) -- The Democratic People's Republic of Korea set International Women's Day as a national holiday starting from this year. An endless stream of women was seen paying floral tribute to the statues of the great Generalissimos Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il on Mansu Hill in Pyongyang. Priority is given to women at theatres and cinemas and in pleasure parks throughout the country. The Samjiyon Band of the Mansudae Art Troupe and other art troupes put on stage special programs exclusively arranged for women. Okryu, Chongryu and other restaurants gave preferential service to women. Flower and cosmetics shops were crowded with men and children demanding flagrant bouquets and kinds of cosmetics for their wives and mothers. The hairpin counter at the Pyongyang Department Store No. 1 was teeming with women asking for "cosmos"-brand hairpins. It has been a custom that husbands prepare special meals for families instead of their wives. |
