Accusing the U.S. and south Korean warmongers of staging large-scale war maneuvers for invading the north, the statement noted that they are aimed at stifling the north by force.

The north's nuclear deterrent serves as a means to protect the sovereignty of the country and ensure security in both the north and the south.

It called on all Koreans to pool efforts for averting a war and achieving peace.
