US-S. Korea Joint Military Drills Assailed by S. Korean Opposition Party

Pyongyang, March 11 (KCNA) -- The Unified Progressive Party, an opposition party of south Korea, disclosed the aggressive nature of Key Resolve and Foal Eagle joint military drills. The Progressive Policy Institute of the party in its commentary on March 8 said that the on-going military drills are apparently aimed at invading the north as they are staged according to OPLAN 5027 and OPLAN 5029. Even natural disasters are included in the "case of emergency" in OPLAN 5029 as a pretext for invading the north, the commentary notes, and goes on: It is quite unreasonable to say that the drills are "defensive ones" as cutting-edge nuclear strike means are being involved in the drills to get the troops master the relevant procedures. The mounting danger of war is attributable to fragile armistice mechanism, and the UN Security Council's act to authorize the U.S.-proposed "sanctions" over the north's satellite launch has become a catalyst. The floor leader of the Unified Progressive Party said on March 7 that the authorities are calling the military drills ones of "defensive nature" but in actuality they are pursuant to a plan to cross the Military Demarcation Line and occupy the north. A parliamentary spokesman for the party in a commentary said it is a self-evident fact that the UN Security Council's "resolution on sanctions" has strained tensions, branding it as an act of touching off crisis, away from a method of peaceful settlement. |
