Don Borrie, chairman of the New Zealand-DPRK Society, was elected chairman of the committee.

The committee made public an appeal to organizations for friendship and solidarity with the Korean people in different countries of the world.

The appeal called for forming national and regional committees to mark the 60th anniversary of the Korean people's victory in the great Fatherland Liberation War and conducting dynamic activities praising the immortal exploits President Kim Il Sung performed by firmly defending the sovereignty and destiny of the nation from the U.S. and its allies' war of aggression.

It went on:

1. Let's wage an international solidarity movement for supporting the Korean people in their just struggle for the conclusion of a peace treaty between the DPRK and U.S. and the withdrawal of the U.S. forces from south Korea on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the Korean people's victory in the great Fatherland Liberation War.

Let's strongly protest and condemn the moves to revive the "UN Command", spectre of the Cold War, as a tool for igniting a war of aggression in the Asia-Pacific region, the biggest hotspot in the world.

2. Convinced that the June 15 North-South Joint Declaration and the October 4 declaration adopted at the Pyongyang summits in 2000 and 2007 thanks to the compatriotic decision of the respected HE Kim Jong Il serve as the most reasonable programme for realizing the independent and peaceful reunification of Korea and the landmark of peace and prosperity, let us support the Korean people in their just cause for implementing them.

3. Let's organize a grand march for peace and colourful solidarity events in the DPRK on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the Korean people's victory in the great Fatherland Liberation War.

Let's join the Korean people in celebrating the 60th anniversary of the victory in the war by supporting the cause of justice of the Korean people and demanding the conclusion of the peace treaty between the DPRK and U.S. and the withdrawal of the U.S. forces from south Korea.
