Scientific Successes Gain in Scope in DPRK
Pyongyang, March 19 (KCNA) -- Scientists and technicians of the State Academy of Sciences in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea have achieved big successes in updating the nation's economy.

At the Kim Chaek Iron and Steel Complex, they succeeded in putting the roughing process of the hot rolling shop on a PLC system while working hard to computerize the processes on a higher level.

At the Sunchon Chemical Complex, they are buckling down to introducing the process of smelting-reduction iron production by use of oxygen heat.

In the meantime, a number of major factories have been put on a CNC basis throughout the country.

At the February 8 Jikdong Youth Coal Mine, geologists invented a device capable of prospecting coal bed tens of meters ahead, in cooperation with the mine's technicians.

Light industrial scientists made a contribution to increasing the production and variety of tetron rayon fabrics by inventing a new weaving technology and helping operate the water jet loom at full capacity.
