Reparation to Victims of False Case Demanded in S. Korea

Pyongyang, March 20 (KCNA) -- The Seoul High Court of south Korea recently held that the "government" authorities should pay a reparation to those related to the case of the National Democratic Youths and Students League. In the 1970s youth and students of south Korea organized the National Democratic Youths and Students League with democratic students organizations of 24 universities in six cities and high schools in different parts of south Korea. From late in 1973 the organization spearheaded its actions against dictatorship and outside forces, holding slogans calling for the abolition of the "yusin" dictatorship, freedom of media, press, assembly and demonstration, dissolution of the Central Intelligence Agency, opposition to the talks with Japan and release of prisoners of conscience. Regarding these actions as a thorn in their flesh, the "yusin" dictatorial forces fabricated again the case of the Committee for Rebuilding the People's Revolutionary Party in April 1974. They arrested more than 4 000 persons, labeling the National Democratic Youths and Students League as "a seditious anti-government organization" manipulated by the committee, and sentenced to death and heavy penalties hardcore elements by invoking fascist laws. In December 2005 the south Korean authorities admitted that "the case of the National Democratic Youths and Students League was the one which was suppressed by distorting anti-government demonstrations of students" and afterwards made a decision of declaring those related to the case not guilty. In this connection victims and their families have staged actions to have the crimes committed by the past "yusin" dictatorship settled, demanding the authorities pay a reparation to them. |
