U.S. to Blame for Nuclear Issue on Korean Peninsula: Nigerian Organization

Pyongyang, March 22 (KCNA) -- The Nigerian National Committee for the Study of the Juche Idea posted on its website an article titled "Arch criminal who spawned nuclear issue on Korean Peninsula" on March 13. The nuclear issue on the peninsula was spawned as the U.S. introduced nuclear weapons into south Korea, the article said, and went on: After suffering a shameful defeat in the Korean war ignited by itself, the U.S. felt regretful about its failure to use A-bombs during the war. It frantically stepped up the preparations for a nuclear war after the ceasefire. The DPRK has made every possible effort to settle the nuclear issue on the peninsula since the U.S. introduction of nuclear weapons into south Korea. But the U.S. nuclear threat to the DPRK has not decreased but increased. When the first DPRK-U.S. talks started during the Clinton Administration, the U.S. made assurances that it would not use armed forces including nuclear weapons against the DPRK nor threaten it with such forces. It also declared it had no hostile intent on the DPRK. But the U.S. commitments have not yet been honored. The Bush Administration singled out the DPRK as an "axis of evil" and a target of preemptive nuclear attack, reneging on the DPRK-U.S. agreements reached during the Clinton Administration. This compelled the DPRK to withdraw from NPT and have access to nuclear deterrent for self-defence. At the six-party talks, too, the U.S. confirmed that it has no intention to attack or invade the DPRK with nuclear or conventional weapons. It promised several times to improve relations with the DPRK and opt for establishing full diplomatic relations with it. But the U.S. did not keep its promise this time, too, but escalated its offensive to stifle the DPRK, straining the situation on the peninsula. As all facts prove, it is none other than the U.S. which spawned the nuclear issue on the peninsula and escalated the tension. The U.S. is, therefore, wholly to blame for the nuclear issue on the peninsula. |
